Basic Roll Dough

1 pkg dry yeast

1/4 c. warm water

1 c. milk, scalded

1/4 c. sugar

1/4 c. shortening (½ stick oleo)

1 tsp salt

3 ½ c flour

1 egg

Soften yeast in warm water. Combine milk, sugar, shortening and

salt.  Add 1 ½ c flour, mix well.  Beat in egg and yeast.  Gradually

add remaining flour to form a soft dough.  Place in greased bowl,

turning once to grease surface.  Cover and let rise till double (1 ½ hrs).

Turn out on lightly floured surface and shape as desired. Place on greased

pan. Cover and let rise till doubled (45 min.) Bake at 375 about 15 min.,

until light brown.  Brush tops with butter while warm, if desired.
